- The W5A580 or WA580 is a NAG1 series automatic transmission. This transmission is electronically controlled with a triple disc clutch system for driving and an additional two freewheeling clutches. The W5A580 has 5 speeds with a fifth-year that was meant to be an overdrive.

We have written several articles about the NAG 1 five-speed automatic transmission used in Dodge, Chrysler and Jeep vehicles. It comes in both two-wheel drive and four-wheel drive configurations and may also be referred to as the WA580, W5A580, 5G-Tronic or 722.6 transmission. PCS Transmission Control Unit:

We specialize in the standalone Transmission Control Unit (TCU) for the 722.6, W5A580, or NAG1 transmission. We offer two different kits for this transmission. One using the factory TCM and Shifter. This is a much more plug n play option and the full standalone PCS TCM-2800. This transmission is found in Mercedes-Benz models from the late 1990’s through 2008 (depending on model and options), the Dodge/Chrysler line up (5.7 and 6.1 SRT8 300c, Charger, Challenger and in Jeep Cherokees), and in select Porsche and Jaguar models.

Now supporting 8hp swaps with the FCA units only. We support swaps with factory take out ECMs, crate motor ECMs, and full standalone conversions. Factory FCA 8hp shifters from the Charger, Challenger or Ram must be used. TPS and RPM and brake switch are the minimum requirements.

Support for the ZF 5hp line of transmissions has been added. We have base calibration for all versions and now have complete wiring harnesses so no donor harness is required.
