Aug 11, 2019 I'm using the Microsoft Remote Desktop 10 app to try to connect to a Windows 10 computer via RD Gateway. If I try to initiate the connection from a Windows 10 computer with exactly the same settings, it works fine. It will not connect via a brand new MacBook Pro, it fails with the following error.

Earlier this week, we received a call from a client stating that they could not longer connect to their Windows device at their office using their personal MacBook. The client was receiving an error message “Unable to Connect” with the error code 0x3000064. This error is related to the latest version of the Windows Remote Desktop application in macOS.

Issue:

Client using macOS based device receives error 0x3000064 when attempting a remote connection to a Windows 10 computer using the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. It is important to note that the client is using macOS Catalina (10.15.7) and that the remote connection uses a RD Gateway server.

  • May 08, 2017 Hi All, I using Microsoft remote desktop on Mac to remote to my PC (using win 7, and i remote by IP) but received a message. 'Unable to connect to Remote PC.
  • All of our Windows clients can RDP from outside the firewall, but Mac users continue to receive and error; 'Unable to connect Your session ended because of a protocol error while communicating with the Remote Desktop Gateway. If this keeps happening, contact your network administrator for assistance.'
  • Use Microsoft Remote Desktop for Mac to connect to a remote PC or virtual apps and desktops made available by your admin. With Microsoft Remote Desktop, you can be productive no matter where you are. GET STARTED Configure your PC for remote access using the information at https://aka.ms/rdsetup.

Resolution:

Issue is caused by a faulty update on the Microsoft Remote Desktop app. To solve the issue, client must install a prior version of the Microsoft Remote Desktop app or install the Microsoft Remote Desktop Beta version 10.5.0 (1841).

Please note that some users using the latest macOS Big Sur (11.0.1) have noted that the Beta version of the app does not solve their issue. These users have downgraded to version 10.4.1 (1825) using the link below.

Download:

Prior versions of the Microsoft Remote Desktop app and the Beta version 10.5.0 (1841) can be found under Microsoft’s App Center. For prior versions, we suggest to uninstall the current app first before attempting the install of the older app.

Microsoft Remote Desktop Mac Unable To Connect

You should have a word with your network administrator and ask them the question. FWIW I think there's a certificate or a protocol setting that needs to be configured somewhere that will allow your Mac to 'pass-through'. This could be something built-in on a PC or pre-configured when your IT department roll out the setting to their PC clients. Be patient and persistent and don't let them fob you off simply because you're on a Mac and not a PC. They should be supporting you properly irrespective of platform. It's their job after all
